About Us
Midstream Methodist Church is a vibrant, Christ-centered community located in the heart of Midstream Estate. We are a “Society” within the Methodist Church of Southern Africa (MCSA), committed to spiritual growth, fellowship, and serving our local community.
Our doors are open to everyone—whether you are a lifelong Methodist, new to the faith, or simply seeking a place to belong. We believe in “Scriptural Holiness” and strive to live out the Gospel through acts of piety and acts of mercy.
Our Vision
To be a Spirit-empowered church where lives are transformed, communities are impacted, and every person grows into the likeness of Christ.
Our Mission
To be a Spirit-empowered church where lives are transformed, communities are impacted, and every person grows into the likeness of Christ.
- Passionately pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Encounter the living God through vibrant worship, biblical teaching, and authentic fellowship, and experience the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.
- Grow in their understanding of Jesus’ teachings and example, and apply them to every area of life, being sanctified by the Spirit’s work in their hearts.
- Be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a life of obedience to God and to bear fruit in their walk with Jesus.
- Develop a personal relationship with Jesus, and be nurtured in their faith through discipleship, mentorship, and support, as they are guided by the Spirit into all truth.
- Join together in serving others, sharing the love of Jesus with our community, and making a positive impact in the world, all to the glory of God.
Our Connectional Structure
One of the unique strengths of the Methodist tradition is our “Connectionalism.” We believe that no local church is an island; instead, we are part of a larger, interconnected body that shares resources, oversight, and a common mission across Southern Africa.
1. The Local Society (Midstream)
At the local level, Midstream Methodist Church is known as a Society. This is where our community gathers for worship, sacraments, and ministry. The Society is led by our Resident Minister and the Society Stewards, who oversee the spiritual and financial well-being of the local church.
2. The Circuit (Midrand Circuit 1020)
Midstream Methodist Church is a member of the Midrand Circuit (1020). A Circuit is a group of local Societies within a specific geographical area that work together under the leadership of a Superintendent Minister. This structure allows us to collaborate on larger mission projects and provides a network of support for both clergy and laity.
3. The District (Limpopo District)
Our Circuit falls under the Limpopo District. The MCSA is divided into several Districts, each led by a Bishop. Despite its name, the Limpopo District covers a broad area that includes the greater Tshwane and Midrand regions of Gauteng, as well as the Limpopo province. The District provides administrative oversight and ensures that the mission of the Methodist Church is being carried out effectively across the broader region.
4. The Connexion (MCSA)
The highest level of our structure is the Connexion, which encompasses all Methodist Societies across South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, and Eswatini. The Connexion is headed by the Presiding Bishop and meets annually at the Conference to determine the direction, doctrine, and policy of the entire Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
Our Leadership
While the mission of the church is carried out by every member of our congregation, our Society Stewards play a vital role in leading our various ministries.
